Your top two skin questions answered.

I get asked a LOT of questions about skincare... want to know what the most popular asked? Read on....

How healthy is my skin?

You might think your skin isn’t particularly healthy. It might not look or feel how you “think” healthy skin should (no thanks to filters and airbrushing)

In reality, healthy skin looks different for everyone. Different complexions and background come with different skin types as well.

Some may think that healthy skin is free of any blemishes, however this isn’t always the case. Just because you have birthmarks, occasional acne or sun damage doesn't mean that you don't have healthy skin. And no matter what your current level of skin health, how you’re thinking about your future skin health is actually more important.

Skin health is really less about how it looks at the present moment and more so about how you are preventing it from being unhealthy in the years to come.

What is my skin type?

There are a few ways to determine your skin type but the easiest way is to see how it performs from morning to evening on a typical day.

Reminder: Dehydrated skin is not a skin type, it is a separate condition. You can have dehydrated skin that’s also oily, combination, or all the above.

Dehydrated skin is a condition that occurs when there’s a lack of water in the skin. This can happen to anyone, regardless of skin type. Dehydrated skin typically looks dull and can show premature signs of aging, like surface wrinkles and loss of elasticity.

A great way to tell if your skin is dehydrated is the pinch test. While this test isn’t definitive, it’s a good way to start thinking about your skin from the inside out.

Take a small portion of your skin around the cheek area and squeeze lightly. If you notice any wrinkling and if the skin doesn’t bounce back after you let go, then your skin may be dehydrated.

With dehydrated skin, you might also notice:

  • darker under-eye circles, or tired eye appearance

  • itchiness

  • skin dullness

  • more sensitive fine lines and wrinkles
