Want to save money AND your skin?

Have you ever opened a serum to find it’s turned a dodgy colour? Or gone to use a moisturiser only to find it smelling a bit more.... whiffy?

We’ve all been there!

Now is the season of the Spring Clean.. and I am here to remind you that you should be giving your skincare routine the same treatment.

Sound like a challenge?

Here are some of my basic tips to get you started.

Before you start, I really suggest checking your local recycling guidelines and seeing what materials can and can't be recycled. Skincare is renowned for its extravagant packaging and it would be a great idea to put any bottles and jars in the right bin!

Lots of brands have their own recycling schemes so check on their websites to make the process easier on you and the planet.

(If you do come across any unopened, in date products that you will never use, please consider donating to those struggling with hygiene poverty. Beauty Banks are the skincare equivalent to food banks and you can post any of your unwanted products or drop off at one of their collection points)

While the term Spring cleaning might suggest a once a year approach to decluttering your skincare, I really recommend doing it a LOT more often.

You really should be doing this every six months MINIMUM, giving shelving and containers a good dust off and also reminding yourself what you have. This will also save you buying another similar product and wasting your hard earned cash.

One of the first things you want to look for is out of date products. If you're not sure when you bought something, there are telltale signs to look for. They can start to smell slightly off, change colour or oxidise, grow a film or the oils can separate. Yuk!

If in doubt it's best to err on the side of caution, as skincare is especially prone to harbouring unwanted germs and bacteria (that's a gentle reminder to stop putting your serum pipette on your face or digging fingers into pots of cream. Use a spatula at least, ladies!)

The same goes for skincare tools; store them upright in a container and clean them after every use to avoid contamination. Keep Cotton pads and buds in separate containers.

If you feel that your products or skin needs a TOTAL re-think... then book yourself in with me for a skin consultation (or a fabulous treatment, if you already know what you want!) and I will give you professional advice and guidance.

I’ll probably be able to save you a few pounds just by steering you away from useless products!
