Spring Clean Your Skin

Spring is finally in the air and guess what, spring cleaning doesn’t just apply to your house.

Ditch the duster and keep reading as I share some top tips to get your glow back!

Lets start with exfoliation. It’s a great idea to do this weekly however, don’t overdo it

Avoid products with harsh ingredients like apricot kernels (looking at you, St. Ives ) and seek out AHA based products for a gentler alternative.

Some exfoliators contain micro beads which are harmful to the environment so bear this in mind Swap to products that use rice grains, adzuki bean powder or other eco friendly ingredients.

Second quick tip for your Spring skincare freshen up is one to banish any blemishes.

Think spots are only for teenagers? Sadly not. Hormonal imbalances can happen at any stage in life and if you’ve broken down your skins barrier…. It’s open season for those spots!

Apply a targeted spot treatment that contains salicylic acid on any erupted or open areas. Please, please, PLEASE do not try blackhead or whitehead extraction at home. You risk scarring and infection. If you’re desperate for a deep clean…. Book yourself a Mini Million Dollar facial which includes steam extraction by a professional.

that’s me!

Your body needs just as much attention as your face! It will soon be exposed as we (hopefully) strip off the layers and slip on the flip flops

Start by treating your feet to a deep moisture treatment and slip in them into some cotton socks overnight. A foot file can be used to take off any remaining rough skin but go easy. Absolutely NO Poundshop peels or hacking away with a blade.

If you’ve left yours too long…. talk to me and I can give you some advice on how to treat your concerns. From athletes foot to cracked heels. I can help you get soft, beautiful pain free feet for Summer.

Or book in for the spa pedicure of your dreams

To help you get your skin ready to excrete toxins more effectively, 5 minutes daily, dry body brushing is highly recommended.

Before you shower, use a natural bristle brush and move it gently over your body. Stroke upwards and inwards towards your heart to get the circulation going.

Give this a miss before bedtime as you may find it gives you a rush of energy!

Feed Your Skin From Within

Good Spring skin starts from within. All of the treatments and topical products in the world won't do much if you are not keeping a balanced diet with plenty of colourful fruit and vegetables.

Collagen is very important in skin... it makes up around 75% of the dermis and is important for skin strength and joint flexibility. However, our collagen levels decrease with age. Studies show that women's skin loses about 30% of its collagen during the first five years of menopause. After that, the decline is more gradual. Women lose about 2% of their collagen ever year for the next 20 years.

A collagen supplement is a good way to maintain smooth skin and joint health and consuming hyaluronic acid and collagen together boosts the effects of both, helping to increase skin elasticity, promote the skin's natural repair process and prompt the body to form new collagen.

Microneedling and LED treatment both assist the repair process in different ways. Get in touch if you would like to discuss these advanced treatments that we offer.

Remember to Use Sun Protection.

This is so obvious, it is unreal. Aim for a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF50 and remember to apply it 30 minutes before going outside, to give it a chance to sink in. It’s important to reapply it regularly.

Switch to a Lighter Moisturiser

There’s no need for a heavy duty cream when the weather starts warming up so now is the time to switch to a lighter moisturiser. Hyaluronic acid is particularly effective for increasing brightness and skin texture so look for lightweight products with the good stuff!

Swap to a Lighter Foundation

It’s also a good time to swap your Winter foundation for a BB or CC cream or a tinted moisturiser. Many of these contain SPF protection too and if you need extra coverage, apply concealer only to the parts of your skin that really need it.

If you have followed the tips so far... you are not going to want to cover up that gorgeous skin with heavy make up anyway!

Have a Professional Facial

So, I might be biased here, however having a professional facial treatment will give you the BEST foundation for your skin care regime. You will get an honest analysis of your skin, a fabulous treatment and any homecare advice you need to help you on your way.

In fact... to further boost hydration and restore radiance, a regular professional facial is not a luxury, it’s a must! Choose a results driven facial rather than a relaxing one for long term results.

Microdermabrasion... any of the Million dollar facials, LED phototherapy and hydrojelly masks are all available to book at Gloss Advance Beauty and Skincare Specialists. So why not book yourself in NOW. You really will feel the benefit and all of your homecare will be much more effective for it!
